Artwork is the production-ready file prepared to a printer's or publisher's exact technical specification, after creative approval.
Artwork stage is mechanical, but unforgiving: bleed, colour profile, resolution, font embedding and trim. Specifications belong in the brief from the start, because they constrain the design.
