GDPR

The GDPR is the EU regulation governing how personal data is collected, processed, stored and transferred, with direct effect for anyone handling EU residents' data.

For briefing work, the GDPR touches three practical areas: personal data inside briefs and audience research, the tools used to collect it, and where those tools store it.

Switzerland has an equivalent regime, the revised Federal Act on Data Protection (revFADP / revDSG), in force since September 2023 and largely aligned with the GDPR.
